Stone Honing

How We Can Help

Keep the beauty of natural stone surfaces in your home or business intact with the help of Surface Master® technicians. Our experts can hone your marble, granite, sandstone, limestone, and travertine with skill.

Honing involves mechanically resurfacing your stone using diamond abrasives and water to achieve a uniform, low-key sheen, creating a look that is not too overpowering for those who prefer a subtler appearance compared to highly polished, glossy surfaces. Honing resolves issues such as stains, chips, water spots, glass rings, cracks, etching, and dull spots. Our Australia-based technicians produce a surface with a smooth, low sheen matte finish that leaves your surfaces looking elegant and in their most natural state.

Honed surfaces have a more satin-like, smooth and velvety feel, making them more suited to casual, comfortable environments rather than formal, polished surfaces. They are also highly scratch-resistant due to the absence of a glossy surface, and when scratches do occur, they are not easily noticeable. Honed surfaces are popular in areas of high foot traffic and frequent use, including bathrooms, living rooms, foyers, and kitchen counters.

Resurfacing is a delicate task that requires patience and experience. Improper resurfacing can worsen scratches and impurities. Call us on 0424 907 758 for assistance with all your questions and bookings. Our knowledgeable and friendly customer service team is ready to help.

Regular Care

Natural stone is a stunning addition to any home or office, but it can easily become scratched in high-traffic areas. Maintaining its beauty requires proper care and a consistent maintenance program.

If liquids spill on your honed stone surface, wipe it up immediately. Clean it with a mildly abrasive household detergent, but avoid using regular soap as it can seep into the surface and cause discoloration. Avoid using vinegar, as its acid content can damage and etch many types of stone. After mopping, dry the floor with a cotton towel or use a mop to remove moisture and prevent water spots.

Honed natural stone is susceptible to etching and corrosion caused by common household substances such as soft drinks, tea, citrus juice, and acidic cleaning products. It’s important to periodically clean and reseal honed or matte surfaces with a professional-grade, deep-penetrating, impregnating sealer. This will reduce the risk of staining and make cleaning easier. We recommend using a premium sealer that is non-toxic, non-slip, and long-lasting for up to 10 years.
